The AGH Lake House

AGH Lake House

EAST HADDAM, CONNECTICUT

In case you missed it… we sold the AGH Farmhouse back in May. We’re finally revealing our new rental house and the details surrounding the home.

Over the past year, owners local designer Bonnie WIttman and her husband Bill executed a meticulous full-scale renovation of the home. (You can see what the house looked like in the demo phase in our three part Instagram reel: Part One, Part Two, Part Three). Serendipitously, things timed up perfectly and it was a massive catalyst for listing our home when we did. After we knew for sure we’d be moving in, Bonnie and Bill kindly and generously got us involved in the design process and allowed us to personalize the home with decisions regarding interior paint, finishes, hardware, lighting, flooring and general design decisions.

No detail was left untouched, and we’re so happy to land here for awhile. Some of my favorite aspects (though there are many) are the architectural ceilings, abundant natural light, original floors, and single-level living with a great layout and flow.

The design style for the home was a laid-back California aesthetic. I loved the fact that the home, both in its interior and exterior, does not have the typical look of homes in this area of the country, and it was an opportunity to do something entirely different than in our previous home. I wanted the foundational elements of the home to be rooted in the classics and layer in eclectic details that add warmth and personality. A few of our pieces from the Farmhouse made it here, but we mostly started anew- a chance to flex my styling muscles. Boucle, linen, and woven patterns with touches of reclaimed wood can be found on repeat throughout the home. Light filled rooms, neutral textiles, natural elements, and earthy textures, are the elements that define the space.
