Cedar Point: Kitchen

Inside Cedar Point, a whole-home organizing project inside a coastal Connecticut home.

TOUR CEDAR POINT

There are so many helpful micro tips and steps to getting a kitchen organized, but it really comes down to zones; nothing is more impactful than a proper layout. It’s been the case for every kitchen we’ve ever worked on, and the kitchen at the Cedar Point project was no exception.

Creating designated zones is crucial to creating order in the kitchen and also what helps *keep* the space organized. Things immediately make more sense in the short term, and after all, knowing where something is supposed to go makes it easier to keep it there.

Most kitchens, even big beautiful ones like this come down to just a few zones zones: Prep/Cooking, Plating, Entertaining, Clean-Up

To create these zones, we sectored off a prep/cooking zone around the stove & oven, and ensured all utensils, cutting boards, cookware, and small appliances were in the nearby cabinetry; we also bundled sprays, surface cleaners, towels and sponges within arms’ reach of the sink, dishwasher and trash bin to create the cleaning zone. By grouping items by their function, the kitchen flows effortlessly, and everything feels intentional and easy to find.

After decluttering the kitchen and devising our zones, we implemented organizing systems with support from key materials. To give the drawers and cabinets some order and keep everything in place, we utilized a few turntables, spring-loaded drawer dividers, expandable in-drawer inserts and mostly custom-cut acrylic drawer organizers for a precise, perfect fit.
