Cedar Point: Laundry Room
Inside Cedar Point, a whole-home organizing project inside a coastal Connecticut home.
Laundry Rooms proves that utility and elegance can go hand in hand— and in the Cedar Point laundry room, they do so effortlessly. With organization that supports the rhythm of everyday life and supportive materials that are cohesive with the space’s timeless aesthetic, this space is a masterclass in functional beauty.
The laundry room in the Cedar Point Project is a beautiful reflection of how function and form can come together in the most thoughtful way. Every element and detail, from the layout to the systems and materials, feels intentionally designed to create a space that’s as beautiful as it is useful.
Soft, neutral tones form the foundation of the space. The walls are painted in a warm, creamy white that brings a gentle brightness to the room, while the cabinetry adds just a hint of contrast in a muted, off-white. Together, they create a serene and cohesive look — a continuation of the calm palette seen throughout the rest of the home. The soapstone countertops contrast beautifully with the crisp lines of the cabinetry. Underfoot, checkered marble floors add texture and movement. The flooring grounds the room and brings in a natural, timeworn element that ties the color palette together. It’s a material that feels both hardworking and elevated — perfectly suited to the utility of the space. All of these elegant design details laid the groundwork for our organizational design.
One of the most thoughtful design features that translated to good organization was the wall-to-wall cabinetry on the perimeter of the room. Its layout ultimately represented the space’s “zones” that store the wide variety of essentials that live in this space. The closed upper and lower mix of cabinets and drawers helped bring order to a busy household while maintaining the clean visual language of the room. These built-ins are a perfect example of how good design solves everyday problems without sacrificing beauty.
Within the cabinetry, we dedicated the following zone categories:
Laundry - detergent, stain treatment & remover, wash bags, folding tools, lost socks, machine maintenance products
Utility - lightbulbs, batteries, furniture touch-ups, hanging accessories
Garment Care - iron, steamer, clothing and shoe maintenance & repair
Cleaning - surface sprays and solvents, cleaning tools
Household - paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, etc)
To store the products and supplies that make up each zone, we installed a mix of durable clear open-front bins and perforated metal baskets in the upper cabinets, custom-cut acrylic divided inserts in the drawers, and wire grid bins in the deep lower cabinets. Glass canisters on the countertop store the most-used laundry products at arm’s reach.
Altogether, the laundry room at The Cedar Point Project is a study in elevated utility. It’s a space that feels deeply considered — a clean and collected design that blends practicality with style.
