Portside: Bedrooms
Inside Portside, a whole-home design project inside a casual coastal contemporary home on Long Island Sound.
When we started the process of designing the bedrooms at this project, we set out to create a series of rooms that collectively felt like a boutique waterfront hotel, all with their own look and personality, but tied together through common imagery, materials and colors.
Although each of the spaces is different, they all bring a feeling of serenity through layered textural details, calming material palettes and restrained styling touches. The palette and sense of serenity in the bedrooms come from its nearby surroundings of salt, sun, sand and sea. While the foundational palette is narrow, we added variation through soft and vibrant tones, layered accent colors, textures and patterns. When you’re working with a monochromatic palette— like we’ve done in this home— it’s not one-note; rather there are actually hundreds of colors and textures that come together to create its design melody.
