Portside: Primary Suite
Inside Portside, a whole-home design project inside a casual coastal contemporary home on Long Island Sound.
A soft tonal primary bedroom at our Portside Project making those sunrises extra golden.
The bedroom should be a space of peace and relaxation to go to at the end of the day. We created a comfortable primary sanctuary for our clients to retreat to. We love the all-natural materials used in this space—linen, rattan, grasscloth and brass in various formats—and the sense of calm it sets throughout the room; it feels elegant and yet relaxed.
The furnishings are intentionally minimal, allowing these tactile elements to shine. Designed as a retreat from buzzy everyday life, the space focuses on simplicity and calm, with carefully chosen details that enhance relaxation while celebrating the serene, textural beauty of its surroundings.
We let the soft tonal layers do the work. We layered textured ratttan and golden-hued brass against soft linen furniture and fabrics, and grasscloth-covered walls that catch the morning light with handwoven textiles for warmth and a touch of color without the weight. It creates depth and allows every piece to complement, not compete, with the next.
This home really understands where it lives. The location of this project on the southern bend of Old Black Point makes it easy to let the view be the star of the design show. We designed this room to frame the views like living art. Good design doesn’t announce itself, it just feels right.
Before + In-Progress
Working directly with The Container Store in Natick, we customized every inch of the Primary Closet to create the perfect home for all clothing, shoes and accessories. A mix of short and long hanging, full-extension drawers that open with just a touch, open shelving up top and a shoe wall provide functionally solutions for every category. The Avera line’s clean and sleek design has a matte woodgrain finish that suits the rest of the home’s new aesthetic, finished in “cloud”.
